What is your Top 10?

So here is my year end list of the best albums according to me in 2011.  I have been a faithful listener of NPR’s All Songs Considered for 3 years now and they have year end shows dedicated to both their opinions and their listeners votes.   The following list below is my top ten.  I really had a hard time with my top 6 for they all were very special to me this year.  I would have to say this has been a pretty amazing year in music.  So here it goes:

  1. Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues
  2. Bon Iver – Bon Iver
  3. Civil Wars – Barton Hollow
  4. Black Keys – El Camino
  5. Bright Eyes – The People’s Key
  6. Wilco – The Whole Love
  7. Radiohead – The King of Limbs
  8. Fruit Bats – The Tripper
  9. tUnE-yArDs – w h o k i l l
  10. Noah and the Whale – Last Night on Earth

Honorable mentions include Florence + The Machine – Ceremonials, Feist – Metals, Alison Krauss And Union Station – Paper Airplanes, Death Cab For Cutie – Codes And Keys, James Blake – James Blake, Brown Recluse – Evening Tapestry, Metronomy – The English Riviera and Cass McCombs – Humor Risk

If you want to give them a listen on Spotify “here” is my playlist what include all of the above albums. (including the honorable mentions).

So what are your favorites?  What do you think of my list?  What did I miss? What is your Top 10?

  1. Nice list. What is considered “good” is all up to ear of beholder. I used to listen to NPR “All Songs Considered” back in the early to mid 2000’s but haven’t as much in recent years. I think they do a great job getting some of the less mainstream music out there, but they still miss a lot of good indie music. I bought a lot of new and old music this year. I’m not as impressed with all some of the new music I acquired this year as you may be. I could only come up with 7 new CDs that I think are worthy of belonging to a top 10 list. I rounded it out with some re-issues or unearthed never before release music (see 8 through 10 of my list).

    1. Submarines – Love Notes/Letter Bombs
    2. Dawes – Nothing is Wrong
    3. Tom Morello, Nightwatchman – Worldwide Rebel
    4. Lucinda Williams – Blessed
    5. Paul Simon – So Beautiful or So What
    6. Tom Waits – Bad as me
    7. Wilco – The Whole Love
    8. Miles Davis – Live in Europe 1967
    9. Jimi Hendrix – Live in the West
    10. Nirvana Nevermind – Super Deluxe Re-Release with Live Show 1991

    • I have heard this album a few times this year. It is really good! NPR really supports this band because Carrie Brownstein, formally from Sleater and All Songs Considered contributor, is a member of the band. All Songs actually has a really great live performance of theirs posted. The set includes and encore including a Ramones and a Television cover! you can find it here
